The BookMarks – Creating a Futuristic Library Experience for VT
When we think of a Library, we tend to think of the stigmatized stiff spaces, “shushing”, and dusty shelves—not exactly inviting, although they contain great repositories of information.
What if accessing this information could be pleasant, or even pleasurable? What if, in an alternate universe in the VT Galaxy, a Library could be more digitized, modern, and even (dare say it) – comfortable? That sounds lovely, yes, please sign me up.
The BookMarks, a Senior group led by Annemarie Van Zelfden, are doing exactly that. Creating their own modernized and welcoming Library that gives the VT Library the redesign, modernization, and consideration it needs to become a more user-friendly, accommodating, and inviting place. Our students are innovating and inventing the Library of the future.
When we spoke with Annemarie, she explained, “We’re working on [completely] redesigning the library. Currently, it’s just books piled upon books with no organization.”
“Once we label and organize the books, we’re also going to design a plan for the new library with interactive seating; we also want it to be a safe place for kids surrounded by books so that they associate that safe space with books.”
They are designing an all-inclusive modular-style Library space to cultivate a unique and inspiring environment in the new library, and we’re all about it.
